CorfuCorfu Greece
Corfu is the second largest island of the Eptanissa (the seven islands). Elegant architecture, sun beaches, nightlife and fine cuisine all contribute to attracting visitors from all over the world. You will find ancient Greek and Roman remains, old churches, museums, medieval villages and of course the Venetian forts. Its crystal waters, picturesque bays, the sandy or rocky beaches and the lush vegetation entice you to wander further. Corfu enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with summers that are hot and dry, while winters are mild and wet with the average temperature around 10 degrees Celsius. Spring comes to the island in February, and weather warm enough for swimming continues until early November. The exquisite island of ancient Pheakon entirely meets the desires and the needs of even the most demanding visitor. The island’s size permits its visitors to choose the most suitable spot for a holiday.

Museums
Archeological Museum
Most of the finds excavated on the island are exhibited in the Archaeological museum. You can find many exhibits representing different periods of the island’s history. One of the most important exhibits is the pediment of the Gorgon from the temple of Artemis (580 BC) and the beautiful archaic lion, which was found near the Menecrate’s tomb (7th c B.C.).

Museum of Asian Art
Housed in the palace of Saint Michael and George. It includes the collection of thousand of pieces dating from the Neolithic Age to 19th century. The exhibits are all part of the private collection of the Corfian Diplomat Grigoris Manou, of the ex-ambassador N.Chatzivasiliou and the diplomats I.Siniosoglou and P. Almanachou.

Byzantine Museum
Housed in the Church of Virgin Antivouniotissa. The exhibits are early Christian sculptures, parts of mosaic floors, Byzantine wall paintings of the 11th, 13th and 18th centuries and a collection of icons of the 16th to 18th centuries.

AchilleioAchilleio - Corfu Greece
It was built in the last century (1890 – 1892) for the empress Elizabeth of Austria – Hungary (Princess Sissy). She was assassinated in Geneva in 1898, whereupon Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany bought Achilleio as a holiday home. The large building is of neoclassical style with vast gardens, Renaissance statues and work of art. The most famous statue is the two bronze runners, the dying Achilles and the statue of Achilles Triumphant. Today the palace is a museum of the personal belongings of the Empress and the Kaiser.

Shightseeing
Corfu town - SightseeingCorfu Town - Corfu Greece
Corfu Town is a principal port and the largest town in the Ionian Islands. One of the most beautiful walks in the town is around the Esplanade, the second largest square in Europe, which is the hurt of Corfu town. The 3 major historical periods of Corfu can be distinguished: in the old fort the Venetian, in Liston arcade the French and in the Palace, the English. On the upper side of Esplanade stands a memorial to the British Lord High Commissioner Sir Thomas Maitland, built in 1816 in the shape of a circular building with Ionian columns. The statue of John Capodistrias (the first president of Greece) stands near the Maitland’s monument and right in front of the building where the Ionian Academy was housed. Opposite the Liston is the Old Fortress, the best known of the Venetian citadels. At the northern end of Esplanade stands the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, one of the most elegant buildings in Corfu. Take some time to explore the island; the scenery that any destination offers will amaze you.
