Corfu is the second largest island of the Eptanissa (the seven islands).
Elegant architecture, sun beaches, nightlife and fine cuisine all contribute to
attracting visitors from all over the world. You will find ancient Greek and
Roman remains, old churches, museums, medieval villages and of course the
Venetian forts. Its crystal waters, picturesque bays, the sandy or rocky beaches
and the lush vegetation entice you to wander further. Corfu enjoys a typical
Mediterranean climate, with summers that are hot and dry, while winters are mild
and wet with the average temperature around 10 degrees Celsius. Spring comes to
the island in February, and weather warm enough for swimming continues until
early November. The exquisite island of ancient Pheakon entirely meets the
desires and the needs of even the most demanding visitor. The island's size

Most of the finds excavated on the island are
exhibited in the Archaeological museum. You can find many exhibits representing
different periods of the island's history. One of the most important exhibits
is the pediment of the Gorgon from the temple of Artemis (580 BC) and the
beautiful archaic lion, which was found near the Menecrate's tomb (7th c

Housed in the palace of Saint Michael and George. It
includes the collection of thousand of pieces dating from the Neolithic Age to
19th century. The exhibits are all part of the private collection of the Corfian
Diplomat Grigoris Manou, of the ex-ambassador N.Chatzivasiliou and the diplomats
I.Siniosoglou and P. Almanachou.
Housed in the Church of Virgin Antivouniotissa. The
exhibits are early Christian sculptures, parts of mosaic floors, Byzantine wall
paintings of the 11th, 13th and 18th centuries and a collection of icons of the
16th to 18th centuries.
It was built in the last century (1890 - 1892) for the
empress Elizabeth of Austria - Hungary (Princess Sissy). She was assassinated
in Geneva in 1898, whereupon Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany bought Achilleio as a
holiday home. The large building is of neoclassical style with vast gardens,
Renaissance statues and work of art. The most famous statue is the two bronze
runners, the dying Achilles and the statue of Achilles Triumphant. Today the
palace is a museum of the personal belongings of the Empress and the Kaiser.
Corfu town - Sightseeing
Corfu Town is a principal port and the largest
town in the Ionian Islands. One of the most beautiful walks in the town is
around the Esplanade, the second largest square in Europe, which is the hurt of
Corfu town. The 3 major historical periods of Corfu can be distinguished: in the
old fort the Venetian, in Liston arcade the French and in the Palace, the
English. On the upper side of Esplanade stands a memorial to the British Lord
High Commissioner Sir Thomas Maitland, built in 1816 in the shape of a circular
building with Ionian columns. The statue of John Capodistrias (the first
president of Greece) stands near the Maitland's monument and right in front of
the building where the Ionian Academy was housed. Opposite the Liston is the Old
Fortress, the best known of the Venetian citadels. At the northern end of
Esplanade stands the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, one of the most
elegant buildings in Corfu. Take some time to explore the island; the scenery
that any destination offers will amaze you.

Second to Corfu Town, located in the west side of

Othonoi and in the south the beautiful Paxi and Atnipaxi.
