Aegina
Aegina lies in the center of the Argosaronic gulf. It is a green island with picturesque villages and beautiful beaches, with modern tourist facilities and important historical monuments. Visit the Archaeological museum, the remains of the ancient temple of Apollo and the famous temple of Aphaia dedicated to an ancient goddess who was the protector of the island. Along the waterfront shops offering local products (pistachio nuts is the most famous), restaurants, Ouzeris, Cafes and bars are available for the visitors.

Temple of Apollo:
The Doric style temple of Apollo stood on the summit and was built in the 6th c BC, from which only a column crowned with a capital remains standing. That is why the area was name “Kolona”. Excavations in the neighborhood have also uncovered the remains of a theatre and a stadium and the Attaleion.

Temple of Aphaia
The temple stands on a height overlooking Agia Marina Bay and was dedicated to the Aphaian goddess of Athena. The building is in Doric style and is one of the best examples of early classical architecture. In the interior of the temple the gold and ivory statue of the goddess was housed. Apart from the terraced peribolos and the propylaea, there was a large altar, baths and living quarters for the priests.

Archaeological Museum
Architectural fragments from the temple of Aphaia are exhibited, a sphinx believed to have been the work of the Attican sculptor Kalamis and a representative collection of local ceramics from Neolithic times through to the archaic period.

Beaches
Agia Marina, Marathona, Souvala and Perdika are some of the wonderful beaches on the Island of Aegina
